In each semester, students may be required to appear in quizzes, mid terms, final examination, give presentation, participate in group discussion, and submit projects/assignments/lab reports. These (to be determined by the teacher concerned) will have different weightage contributing towards the overall assessment in percent marks. This weightage can be determined, based on the following guidelines:
Nature of Examination | Theory | Labs. |
Quizzes | 10% | 10% |
Mid Semester Examinations | 30% | – |
Assignments/Presentations | 10% | 10% |
Practical/Project | – | 80% |
Final Examination | 50% | – |
A makeup test will be conducted in the afternoon of the final examination for students.
who have missed midterm examination.
who has obtained less than 50% marks during semester.
There will be no Supplementary/ Special Examination in a Semester System; if a student fails in a course, he/s is required to repeat it.
The examination held at the end of semester after the completion of a course shall be known as Terminal Examination. It will carry 100 marks. This examination is a passing head i.e., a student must for each course obtain a minimum of 50 marks in this examination.
Grades given to a student in each course shall be of two types:
Assessment of performance on the basis of marks out of 100 fixed for a course of 3 or 4 credit hours unit is NG.
Equivalence of numerical grades in terms of alphabets shall be termed as alphabetical grades. (Each letter carries a value in terms of numerical points)
Marks | Grade | Grade Points |
90 & above | A+ | 4.00 |
86-89 | A | 4.00 |
80-85 | A- | 3.85 |
76-79 | B+ | 3.65 |
73-75 | B | 3.35 |
70-72 | B- | 3.15 |
66-69 | C+ | 2.95 |
63-65 | C | 2.75 |
60-62 | C- | 2.45 |
56-59 | D+ | 2.25 |
53-55 | D | 1.8 |
50-52 | D- | 1.0 |
Below 50 | F | 0.0 |
For incomplete courses no point shall be given.
Point obtained in each course shall be multiplied by the number of Credit Hours specified for that course, and then a grade point ration (GPR) shall be calculated. For example, the result of a last year student in a semester may be as follows:
This is obtained by adding all the Grade Points of the courses during 5 years study period and dividing the totally by the total number of credit hours.
Semester Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPA) will be calculated using the following relationships:
CGPA = Sum of (Credit Hours X GPA)/Total Credit Hours
For graduation, the minimum qualifying CGPAs for Pharm. D. and M. Phil. Students are 2.45.
Proper Paper Viewing has to be made mandatory before final submission of result to the controller of examination and its approval by the Faculty Board of Studies.
This would help in avoiding student’s grievances, biasness and calculation errors etc in the papers.
