Hamdard University is committed to develop Residential Facilities for Students. Hostels facilities are available at the Main Campus to accommodate male and female students from upcountry and abroad. Due to the paucity of space the facility is provided on the first-come-first served basis. Temporary arrangements are made in another City Hostel to accommodate the students who do not find place in the Main Campus Hostels. All the hostels are well equipped and comfortable for boarding and lodging.
A busy inter-active life is hallmark of all the campuses of Hamdard University. Cafeteria and tea shops at various campuses not only provide quality food but also the rendezvous for informal tete-a-tete and gatherings. The Students Teachers Centre (STC) is the Central Cafeteria of the Main Campus which due to its spacious hall, innovative décor, and cozy environment, offers an ideal place for interaction among students and teachers. The STC in the second phase of its construction will include facilities for indoor games in addition to offices for different students’ clubs and societies.
Knowledge, being upheld as the highest value, the Hamdard University culture defies all manner of discrimination on the basis of caste, colour, creed and religion. The enlivening atmosphere created at Hamdard University due to its lush green environment and friendly, cooperative and learned faculty, provides the students with physical, emotional and intellectual experiences, helpful in generating optimism, ambition, vision and creativity in their personality profile. The overall University culture is based on a combination of thought and passion-oriented phenomenon, which is manifested in the informal gatherings, dialogues, debates and discussions held as a deep-rooted scholarly institutional practice. A Freedom of thought and expression combined with a great respect for teachers and seniors from the youthful element finds regular expression in competitions, musical programs, festivals and sports organized and conducted by students’ bodies. The other regular celebrations include parties, picnics, and get-togethers and festivals of national significance. Farewell parties are enthusiastically and regularly organized by the junior students for their passing out fellows. Annual Convocation, held usually in the first quarter of each year, is a grand occasion of the University life, which offers the successful students, the great privilege to receive their degrees from eminent public figures and luminaries.
At Hamdard University, the systems applied in the organization of libraries make access to information quick and simple. Supplied with the latest books, periodicals, magazines and journals, the departmental / seminar libraries at different institutes and faculties provide the students with a comprehensive collection of books in the particular areas of studies. The Bait al-Hikmah Library is a grand collection of over 450,000 books, including valuable manuscripts, collected by the Founder Chancellor from all over the world. The Library, housed in an imposing edifice at the Main Campus, extends over an area of 2000 sq. yards and is amongst the biggest libraries of Pakistan. Renowned research scholars are accommodated at the well furnished Scholar’s House.
O.P.D., ambulance and security services remain alert to deal with and avoid possible emergencies. A hygienic environment is on the other hand, maintained through an effective system. At the main campus, free of charge medical services are available to the students, the staff and faculty members. Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry (HCM&D) provides these facilities during the University hours at its main building. Shifa-ul-Mulk Memorial Hospital of the Faculty of Eastern Medicine is a full fledge teaching hospital of Unani medicine, renders free services round the clock.
Ambulance, and security mechanisms are kept alert to deal with and avoid possible emergencies. A hygienic environment is on the other hand, maintained through an effective system, which, as a part of its functions, monitors the general condition of cleanliness and standard of the food supplied at different cafeterias.
The University has a large fleet of vehicles to facilitate daily travel of staff between the main City and the Main Campus, Madinat al-Hikmah. Contract vehicles ply for students from fixed points. For industrial and instructional visits, the University provides transport free of cost.
